Story

We would like to raise £150 for Sheppey Girl Guides Divisional Fund through donations as a memorial from Pat Brown.

Our mum Pat was a life long member of the Girl Guide movement. Starting as a Brownie in 1st Queenborough Brownie Pack in 1943 when she was 9 years old (yes that is during the Second World War) then progressing to a Girl Guide. During this time she took proficiency badges and passed the required tests for Sick Nurse, First Aid, Cook and Hostess to name but a few. She loved camping with her unit and often talked about happy times when they all went camping in Faversham on the Belmont Estate and Lord and Lady Harris let them all into the house to give them fresh fruit, eggs, milk etc - it felt like a feast for these post war teenagers.

For many years mum volunteered along with Iris Brotherstone to run 2nd Sheppey Guides and when she retired naturally joined the Trefoil Guild.

Guiding provided my mum with opportunities to travel such as going to My Chalet in Switzerland and to places such as the Millennium Dome.

Most of all mum loved the energy of young people and understood that teenage years can be the hardest and the most exciting time in your life which could be made all the better for being together with a group of like-minded people, singing songs, playing games and challenging yourself for badges (if you wanted).

We'd like to raise money to help this to continue
