    Story

Archie is a Border Terrier. He is just 8 years old. My then 16 year old son saved up and bought him as a puppy in February 2009. On 11th November 2010, the day before my son's 18th birthday, he was stolen from us. We were devastated and spent the next four and a half years searching for him. Unbelievably, one day last year I received a telephone call from Border Terrier Welfare to say they had Archie! It took ages for this amazing news to sink in, but that evening we drove to the kennels and collected him, and it was as if he had never been away. Sadly on 27th December 2016 Archie escaped from the garden when he heard horses on the road outside. He startled them and one of them kicked him - hard. Archie is now at the vets awaiting major surgery for multiple fractures of his left front leg (I have photos of the x-rays but can't add them here) and the operation alone will cost between £3500 and £4000, with the cost of medication and inpatient care on top of that. We cannot let him suffer and want him to have the best treatment possible but the local vet is unable to perform the operation and has referred him to a specialist orthopaedic veterinary surgeon, hence the cost. We are totally gutted by this but Archie deserves another chance. Our plea now is to anyone out there who can help us find the money to pay the bill. We are hoping to raise £6000 to cover the surgery, care and medication Archie has had so far and will need to get him up and running again. Anything you can offer will be gratefully received and we all thank you in advance for caring enough to read this far.

Our JustGiving page raised an amazing £3150 for Archie !! We are bowled over by the generosity of everyone who donated & cannot thank you all enough. Archie has recovered very well from the operation and is slowly getting back the use of his leg. He is completely unfazed by the whole thing! The next step is to try to strengthen his muscles, hopefully with hydrotherapy. Thank you all so much for giving Archie another chance.

Our JustGiving page ends today and you wonderful, generous people have raised an incredible £3030 towards Archie's vet bill. We wish we could thank you all individually but that isn't possible. Not only have you ensured that Archie got (and will continue to get) the best treatment possible, you have shown that despite the terrible news stories, people in general are not like that but are kind and thoughtful and prepared to help others when things go wrong. Thank you so much xx

Archie is able to bear weight on his bad leg, but he tends to hold it off the ground a lot of the time We need to get him to use it a bit more to build up the muscle but it's difficult 😕 Thank you so much everyone who has donated towards the vet's bill - we are blown away by such generosity. If there is a way of thanking donors individually we have yet to work it out but be assured we are thankful for each and every donation and message of support x

Archie had to be anaesthetised for his xray as the vet needed to manipulate his leg to check how it is healing. The small break has healed really well but the bigger break is healing a bit slower than they had hoped. However they have said we can increase Archie's exercise to 4 x 20 minutes per day to build the muscle back up 🐾 He will have to go back for another xray in a few weeks time but for now he is home having lots of fuss 😘
