Story

Stacie is nearly 14 years old and suffers from Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy which means she cannot walk and is in a wheelchair. Stacie was diagnosed when she was 10 months old. When she was born she had an abscess on her liver and a bleed in the brain, the abscess was shrunk over time and has now gone and the bleed was never rechecked. As well as having CP Stacie also has Epilepsy, but even with her problems Stacie is a very happy young lady, you will always see her smiling. Stacie has a step lift outside which is meant to allow her access to our home, however since it was fitted 5 years ago it has broken down on a number of occasions, the company want to charge over £1000 every time it breaks, it is currently not working and to be able to get Stacie in or out of the house we are having to override the electrics, which are in a box outside. So we are now looking to take out the lift and replace it with a ramp. I have been told that as we don’t have a council house it is down to us to fix it. We also have a Motability car which allows Stacie to drive into and travel in her wheelchair, this lease is only for 5 years and in 18 months we will need to lease another vehicle (this one cost us £5,500.00) We are constantly raising money for items that Stacie needs and unfortunately as Stacie gets bigger so does the equipment and the cost. Over the last 12 years we have raised around £45,000 for equipment Stacie needs, with the help of fundraisers we have donated old wheelchairs to local nurseries and believe they are now being used at a special needs School. We have been quoted £900 for a ramp and this would be a one off payment. Thank you for taking the time to read Stacie's story.
