Story

I'm raising money for the STAR’s appeal at Salisbury district hospital for the specialist rehabilitation unit.

My journey started over 4 years ago when I suffered a spinal injury during pregnancy with Lily. It unfortunately developed to the point of losing the use of both my legs and being bed bound for 3 months. After Lily was born the long road to recovery started. From learning to stand and walk again, followed by 2 spinal surgeries, a year apart. The second being incredibly invasive. Once my spine had been stabilised the hard work began. Learning how to use my legs and build up my strength, as well as healing from the nerve damage. Just lifting my leg up took superhuman strength.. After just under a year of physiotherapy I finally managed to run my first mile unaided, and was discharged. Granted it certainly didn’t break any speed records but it was a huge achievement, tears were shed. I cannot thank the staff enough for all their support and encouragement, especially on the hard days. I wanted to give something back, so I’m running a half marathon in April to raise funds and awareness for this fantastic unit. Without them I wouldn’t have my life back, I wouldn’t be able to be the mum I need to be for my gorgeous girls. I understand a half marathon is not a huge distance for some but for someone not so long ago who struggled with 10 steps. It’s pretty challenging!!! I would be forever grateful for any donations, it’s such a fantastic cause!!
