Story

My name is Katie and I have set up this page to bring a little happiness and normality into my amazing friend Sarah’s life! She constantly surprises me with her drive and determination when many in her situation could so easily give up.... So I just wanted her to know that we all care about her and admire her for what she has been through. To loose your hair and part of your head must be like losing your identity. What I hope is to make her journey that bit more socially comfortable and give her some of her confidence back.

SARAH’S STORY

Just under a year ago a healthy, vibrant Sarah slipped down the stairs and banged her head, which could have happened to anyone. She decided to lay on the sofa and fell asleep. Little did she know this would change her life forever!

Sarah’s fall had ruptured a blood vessel in her brain, trigging swelling and the first of many life threating strokes! Sarah’s family were called to the hospital to say their goodbyes... Thankfully sarah had other ideas and after an operation to remove 1/4 of her skull and the pressure building up, she pulled through!

just to give you an idea of why I’m so proud of her... The surgery left Sarah with a drooping face, paralysed, unable to walk, talk, read and write and of course half her brain unprotected.

I am not going to lie, that first facetime with her a few weeks after this all was terrible. It wasn’t my friend looking back at me. My heart broke and we both had a cry! If I am honest I my initial thought was this girl is never getting to stand on a dance floor again! But week by week she blew me away with her determination to get mobile and communicate again. Her family and partner have of course been absolutely amazing, looking after her, helping her speech progress and giving her independence back. However its Sarah’s grit and determination not to give up that is a true inspiration!

She of course has had her low points, and the fact that her operation to put the plate in her skull has been delayed, due to covid, is a major one... I know all she wants is to feel and most look normal again and this won’t happen until the operation.

However we can all help to make her feel a little bit normal by donating as little or as much as you like to buy sarah one/two custom made wigs from the amazing HAIR TO WARE . This local business helps give people back their confidence by helping create wigs for men, women and children who have suffered hair loss in some way, such as cancer, alopecia or in Sarah’s case a medical trauma. They even make wigs from donated hair, so if anyone is feeling brave enough to donate their hair it would make it even more special.

I know times are tough right now and understand you might not be able to donate, but if u can leave sarah a note to tell her just how fab she is will be equally heart lifting!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read sarah’s story...

love
