We are raising £950

My sister Jodie and I will be taking on the challenge Off-Road - 'Race the Sun' in the Lake District Coniston for a children's charity Action Medical Research and for The Sarah Jackson’s Community Wish.

On the 17th May we will be setting off at sunrise to bike, hike, and paddle around a challenging course in Coniston, it’s a race against the sun.

Action Medical Research have spent over 70 years funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children, and young people, they also do substantial research on complicated births. And like many other women we have both experienced very complicated births. They trialled cooling therapy for new-borns. This breakthrough therapy is the product of a 20-year programme of research to which Action Medical Research contributed through key projects funded in the 1990s and 2000s. They carried out fundamental laboratory work on cooling and developed techniques for measuring brain temperature and for identifying babies that would potentially benefit from cooling.

Without this cooling therapy Beauden, Sarina's little boy could have had potential brain damage due to having no oxygen for 7 minutes at birth he was cooled for 3 days to reduce the risk of this happening. We are very thankful to have such amazing technology that can save lives. So, we are very passionate about raising money for them. https://action.org.uk/ 

Our amazing friend Sarah devastatingly passed away from a brain haemorrhage in August 2023. The Sarah Jackson Community Wish (SJCW) was set up by her family and friends to carry on bringing her light into the Otley community by funding worthy causes, families and individuals in need in and around Otley the community she loved. We are both from Otley and have seen the impact the wish has on the community, we will always raise money for this wonderful cause.

Any donations are appreciated we will be raising £950 as agreed sponsorship for Action Medical Research and anything over this will be donated to the SJCW.

Sarina will also be taking part in the Ibiza half Marathon, Harrogate Triathlon and The Leeds Marathon all in memory of Sarah and her Dad Shanko.
