Help! A central London immigrant family, the Windsor- Mountbattens (nee Saxe-Coburg and Gotha,) have been stuckfor several decades in sub-standard public housing. Poorly maintained by the relevant authorities the situation is now critical. For goodness sake the old wiring could ignite a fire in any of the 775 rooms and it could be days before anyone noticed. There's probably miles of old lead piping (which might explain some behaviours). A couple of years ago I saw, on tv, a picture of the Queen huddled over a two bar electric fire.
Probably some anti-state neo-socialists (such as the Labour Party?) would begrudge spending £370 million pounds to put this right when there is increasing poverty, a collapsing nhs and a housing crisis to deal with. They might even propose knocking the old building down and filling the space with hundreds of the new prefabricated houses under active development.
The solution? dip into your pockets and let's pick up the tab ourselves.
Give whatever you think is right, even if it means cutting back on your own charitable donations to Children in Need etc. Remember. The poor will always be with us, so they can wait a decade or two.
