Story

Geordie is one of our rescue dogs from The Responsible Dog Rescue, who is currently living at The Happy Dog Haven in Southport. Geordie the first 9 years of his life living in a public shelter in Romania, where he survived horrendous conditions and was beaten and abused repeatedly. He was finally given his chance to have a happy life, full of love, when he was rescued by our wonderful Volunteers.

Last week poor Geordie suffered a rupture of one of his anterior cruciate ligaments (‘ACL’). It was a complete accident. Geordie had been playing outside with his best friend, Silver, another rescue who, like Geordie, has been transformed from a withdrawn, frightened boy into a happy, playful character who has finally been given the chance to be the dog that he was always meant to be. Unfortunately, during this particular play session, Geordie tore his ACL.

In simple terms, the cruciate ligaments are two pieces of strong elastic that hold the knee together. Because he has torn one of his ACLs, Geordie cannot walk properly. He cannot play with Silver or any of his other friends. He has got very little mobility. And he is in pain, physically and mentally. Geordie has suffered so much pain in his life already. He is a lovely, sweet boy who deserves to have the chance to be happy. But that chance has gone unless his ACL is fixed.

In order to fix his ACL, Geordie needs an operation as soon as possible to repair or replace the ruptured ACL. That operation is expensive. The surgery will cost around £1500 and will be followed up by weeks of pain relief medication. The overall cost is likely to be in the region of £2,000.

We want to raise that money. We want to give Geordie every chance to continue enjoying life. He deserves to be happy. And in order to raise that money one of our fantastic volunteers, Alex Bailey, has signed up to complete an abseil from the top of the roof of the main stand at Anfield stadium, the iconic home of Liverpool Football Club. Alex will be undertaking this abseil on Saturday 9 December 2023, and we are asking as many people as possible to sponsor Alex and contribute to Geordie’s future health and happiness.

We are raising much needed funds to help pay for Geordie’s surgery. He finally got a chance of happiness, and now he needs this chance too!

Please, if you can, donate and give this boy the chance he so desperately deserves at a happy life. Even £1 goes a long way in helping fund Geordie’s surgery, anything left over will go straight to The Responsible Dog Rescue, so they can continue their mission is saving and helping many dogs who deserve their second chance.

We are so appreciative of your support enabling us to give Geordie the help he needs to fix his leg and continue to live his life the way any dog should!
