I volunteer for a fantastic charity that fights to save dogs from the Chinese Meat Trade, bring them back to health both physically and mentally, and then flies them to the UK and Northern Ireland to their forever homes. Some of you may already be aware, but dogs are often stolen or sold to the butchers in China to be used as meat. What you may not know, is the level of torture that these dogs receive before finally losing their lives. The dogs are often shoved into tiny cages with upwards of 20 other dogs, beaten to within an inch of their lives, have their bones broken and set on fire because some people believe that the more the dog is tortured, the tender the meat will be. Local activists have fought hard against this horrific industry and although China recently passed a law preventing domestic animals from being sold for their "meat", this industry is still thriving. I had one friend visit China and tell me that they thought they walked into a run down and poorly managed pet shop, only to find that it was a butchers. The charity is working hard to save these dogs but unfortunately due to Covid and Brexit, flights are hard to secure and the cost is massively inflated (upwards of £3k per dog).
Now that our lives have been turned upside down, and we're perhaps not spending as much on travel, eating out and coffees etc, could you donate and help save the lives of these dogs?
