Story
On Sunday morning, 9 month old Crash (after Crash Bandicoot) did not come in for breakfast. He is the most loving and attentive kitty, and as a newly wed couple, my husband Daniel and I were worried about our missing baby straight away.
We searched the area for 7 hours and were about to give up all hope when I heard a cry. We had walked past him 3 times that day but he must have been unconscious. Fate made us go and search that last time. We were so lucky. He was nearly dead from shock and cold. His whole body had shut itself down. He couldn't move and his face was bloody. He had been hit by a car.
We rushed him to the emergency vet. His temperature was so low it didn't register. The vet said he could die. It was also instantly apparent he had two broken legs, broken teeth and no feeling in his tail.
It was touch and go trying to warm him up but miraculously he survived the night. Daniel and I didn't sleep wondering if the phone would ring.
We love our cat. His sister, Coco, has been crazy wondering where he is while he is in intensive care, having two operations to mend his legs (just as a starting point). His lists of medicine, treatments and care is extensive.
We couldn't consider not finding the money to save a member of our family. We have a meeting at the bank to discuss our options to pay the bills but it's going to be a struggle.
But isn't he insured? The insurance we had had for him had run out. And I hold my hands up that I should never have let that happen. It's crazy to think that we insure a car worth less! I appreciate that for this reason, I should take this punishment for not keeping on top of my affairs. I had ‘cat insurance’ on my to do list. On top of all the horrible feelings about what has happened to Crash, I feel so disappointed in myself for getting into this financial situation.
So we write this justgiving page with only a small hope for support- appealing to anyone who has made a stupid mistake and wished they could change it.
