    Story

Carterton is a relatively new town, founded by Mr William Carter in 1900. There are very few of the original houses left and we are trying to save a pair of the oldest cottages from demolition. The pair of cottages, now one family home, are believed to date back to 1878 and were on the Blenheim Estate when the 9th Duke of Marlborough, Charles Spencer-Churchill (1871-1934), sold the Estate to William Cobett Arkell in 1895, who then sold it on to William Carter.

We are a small group called Carterton Heritage. Being a small group of like minded people from Carterton, and those who have lived in Carterton over the years, we would like to create a Museum or Heritage Centre to display the changes of the town throughout its history.

We are currently looking for an appropriate building to be able to host this planned Heritage Centre but we will not only need the help to find somewhere but to be able to fund a project to get this amazing idea made into reality.
