Story
The value of swimming outdoors to both physical and mental health is well proven. Outdoor pools are also considered safer than indoor pools in relation to the transmission of Coronavirus. Despite this evidence Warwick District Council seems determined to try to end outdoor swimming in Kenilworth.
We are fundraising to pay for an independent report by Sports and Leisure Industry Experts FMG Consulting, which sets out the benefits of keeping an outdoor pool in Abbey Fields. This will include a professional review of all relevant documentation, expert advice and recommendations on key points, to show clearly why Warwick District Council should pause the current Kenilworth leisure project and create a revised plan - with a view to a formal Feasibility Study which we are keen to commission jointly.
Outdoor swimming in Kenilworth is part of the town’s history. It is one of the oldest lidos in the country, and the furthest from the sea and currently the only safe public outdoor swimming facility within 30 miles. The pool’s heritage is highly valued, but change is in its history. The original pool has already been rebuilt twice and we now have the perfect opportunity to create a lido for today; with the latest chemical free filtering, together with the best 21st century design and eco credentials. Your donations can help us take the next step towards making this wonderful community facility a reality.

4 years agoA Big Thank You to you all. We’re pleased to let you know that because so many of you donated, we were able to commission the specialist report which informed our presentation to the Council. We were greatly encouraged to find so many Councillors voting in our favour and even more pleased that we had such positive feedback on the collaborative approach we are taking. This year marks 125 years of outdoor swimming in Abbey Fields so we’re making plans to celebrate. If you can offer ideas or help in any way, please email judy@kenilworthbooks.co.uk
