Story

Join in More, or JiM as the guys who use it call it, has been providing a much needed safe space for men to talk openly about their feelings and mental wellbeing.

JiM provides the opportunity for social interaction, friendship, and company to it's users, with the age range spanning many decades!

Thats were I have found the most benefit, I didn't realise just how lonely I was, how lacking I had become in having face to face interaction with other men, all different, all unique, who may be experiencing similar struggles to me.

We listen, support, encourage, and we hold each other accountable.

When I am with these incredible men I can be my authenic self, I feel safe to be emotionally vulnerable and express what has been weighing me down. Their perspective, and ability to actively listen, has enriched many of my interactions outwith the group.

We have seen new skills developed, new careers achieved, new relationships bloom. We have seen lifelong habits change, lifelong friendships forged, and broken bread over a couple of incredible meal evenings.

We have all built an incredible support group in both Thurso and Wick, and it has been facilitated and nurtured by Listening Ear.

Unfortunately funding is a huge issue all around the country, and many of us are feeling the pinch.

Our basic operating costs have increased such as venue useage, tea and coffee, and the purchase of food for when we host an event.

Two such events have been our Christmas meal, and our Burns Night. Both of these meals were cooked by volunteers, with many hours preparation, and provided a special meal for our group members (and any male that would benefit of the company and the nourishment). There was even enough to be taken away for those who were unable to cook such a meal themselves.

We all feel that we are just getting started, that the potential has barely been scratched, and are looking at ways we can all contribute and play our role in the future of this valuable local resource.
