Craigavon City Park aka The Lakes, is the most outstandingly beautiful area in Craigavon. It is a fantastic recreational resource available & accessible to all. It's free to use & most of us live within walking distance of it. It is used by the local community & visitors from further afield for all manner of activities. We use it for running, walking, swimming, mountain biking, angling, etc. Some just come to enjoy the peace & tranquility of the site. It is used all day, everyday & in all weathers. It is our only available open green space. Residents & tourists have enjoyed the Lakes for over 50 years. IT IS OUR PARK!

City Park is being threatened by ABC Council's decision to sell 13 acres of woodland to Southern Regional College so they can build a Further Education Campus in the middle of it. 13 acres of densely wooded parkland will be replaced by an 18000 m2 building & 400 parking spaces. Over 3000 extra people will visit the site daily. Approximately 4800 extra cars will use the lakes roundabout every day. Congestion & pollution will rise dramatically and we fear emergency response times will rise as a result.

Thousands of trees are being felled, wildlife habitat is being destroyed & protected species are being threatened. Otters, badgers, kingfishers, bats, butterflies, herons & many more are resident & thriving at the lakes & they could be lost forever due to the unnecessary redevelopment of the area.

They are building on our mountain bike trails.

THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL! The land is not sold. The planning application hasn't been submitted. The glossy brochures sent out by SRC have misled many people into thinking that their plans have been approved. They haven't!
