Story
This is my 11 month old cat Ed.
Saturday Ed was run over by my neighbour and left for dead.
I found him lying on the 5 mph lane outside my house.
He was taken to the vets and put on pain relief meds and was suffering with concussion.
He suffered a blow to the head resulting in him loosing a few teeth, having a few knocked out of place and a broken jaw!
The vet told me that if I agreed to the Op he would be able to have an X-ray and they would be able to see what was going on in more detail.
This left me in a dilemma, I’d do anything I could to keep him alive but was left with two options..
1. Find £2,000 for his op, tooth removal, pain relief, his bed in the vets and possibly a feeding tube until his jaw heels
2. Pay £500 for his previous treatment, settle my bill and have him put to sleep
After a talk with the vet about what his ‘quality of life’ would be like after the Op I was told they wouldn’t offer to carry out the operation if they didn’t think he would be back to himself once he had recovered.
I have gone with option 1.
Ed had his surgery today (Monday 9th April) and is going to need a lot of TLC once he is home.
I’m hoping he adapts quickly and the feeding tube they put in as a precaution can be removed, failing that he will be tube fed for a few days until his jaw is stronger.
I’d urge everyone to get pet insurance (most do, I didn’t)
Through my own stupidity of not getting him insured I am now left with a hefty vet bill that I have been given a payment plan of three months.
