Weʼre raising £550,000 to save a monumental site-specific body of outsider art in London.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

Protect the otherworldly legacy left behind by a man in his social housing flat and garden i west London! It features roughly 200 concrete and mixed media sculptures, around 170 wall mounted works and a 50 metre long mural along the Grand Union Canal. It is a melting pot of royal (and popular) history, all things sparkly and the creative and unassuming genius of Gerard (Gerry) Dalton (b Athone, Ireland 1935 - d. London 2019).

The flat is owned by Notting Hill Genesis Housing Association (NHG), and in order to facilitate the organisation's social responsibilities they have set a date of eviction (October 31st) following Gerry's recent passing.

NHG claims the only way to save Gerry's Pompeii in situ is to buy the property at its current value of £550,000.

Although we believe there are other solutions, this sum has to be the main goal for our fundraiser. As the work is site-specific we are trying to work out a viable solution that keeps the work in situ while still considering social housing responsbilities. We need to extend the deadline of eviction - in the meantime every little helps.

The fund will aid the end goal of our campaign and work as a safety net while we are trying to extend the date of eviction (OCT 31ST).

So that we have time to reach our fundraising goal and work out a lasting future and continual growth of Gerry's Pompeii.

Gerry's Pompeii could be a museum that would give back to the community and the organisation through which this masterpiece was created.

- It could host workshops, public programmes and collaborate with local community organisations.

- It could generate financial support to Notting Hill Genesis Housing Association.

- It could become a flagship of the importance of social housing, and remain open to the public rather than ending up in private collections.

Understandably, this requires a lot of groundwork and an extended deadline.

we would ensure that any plans for a museum would take serious consideration to locals neighbours.

We are currently faced with three different possibilities of this campaign:

1. Buy the property at estimated cost

Donations will help us reach the full amount. In this case donations will also go directly towards setting up a fund for maintenance and running costs of the Museum.

2. Extend date of eviction

This will allow us more time to work out a viable solution that considers all parts of the situation. Donations will go directly to pay rent and other maintenance costs during this stay of execution. Estimated £800/pcm

3. Document, transport and store work

If we fail to come to an agreement with Genesis, your money can help fund the last resort and still make sure the work is kept safe for the future.

Email if you think you can provide further help, or if you want to find out more!

Some quotes from our visitors so far:

A very important place! There is no other environment of this size and quality in the U.K."

Jarvis Cocker

Amazing...It’s a folk version of the National Portrait Gallery"

Sir Charles Saumarez Smith CBE

...I have seldom been so affected."

Richard Wentworth, Artist

“Gerry’s obsession with creating, with turning his home into a museum of his own making, has produced a truly unique experience in a one bed flat nestled on the banks of the canal. Everyone involved in the campaign has a hugely important task to preserve this remarkable home which is at once a vital piece of local history and a monumental artwork. I was fortunate enough to be able to explore the catacombs of Gerry’s miniature palaces and walk among the regiments of Maida Vale’s concrete army, and I wholeheartedly support the campaign to save Gerry’s home so that many others may do the same.”

Louis Platman, curator at the Geffrye Museum of the Home

The extent of the magic of Gerry’s Pompeii can only really be appreciated first hand and in its context which is within the walls of Gerry's flat, garden and the canal far beyond. This complete environment is a product of Gerry's surroundings and should be preserved in situ so that his community can enjoy his legacy.

Good luck! A remarkable collection that must remain in situ. Thank you for the wonderful tour.
