    Story

Help us Save Lives ! More than 500000 Indians suffer from end stage organ failure and barely 1-2% of those get a life-saving organ through transplants. India lags behind in Organ Donation and has one of the poorest donation rates in the world. There is an urgent need to bridge this gap and a tremendous scope for increasing awareness and improving the rates of donation.

MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation is one of the oldest NGOs working in the area of Organ Donation in India and has been a torch bearer in many ways. Started in 1997 in Chennai, it started advocating this very difficult cause at a time when no one in the country was talking about it and the environment was fairly hostile towards this highly taboo topic.

Its unique mission is to ensure that every Indian that is suffering from end stage organ failure, be provided with the gift of a new lease of quality life through a lifesaving organ.

MOHAN Foundation, in its journey of 20 years has been successful in saving more than 5000 precious lives by facilitating precious life saving organs through its relentless efforts. It is also the mentoring NGO partner for the government deceased transplantation programs in many Indian states and also SAARC nations. It is the first to promulgate Organ Sharing Network among the states and also the first to embark on a formal training program in South East Asia and has trained more than 1500 transplant coordinators in Asia, who do the unenviable job of counseling bereaved families to encourage them to donate the organs of their deceased loved one and save other lives. Speaking to families who have just lost a dear one is no easy task and needs to be done with sensitivity which the coordinators are trained for in addition to coordinating the entire process of donation and transplant in a timely and effective manner.

The Foundation has played a key role in making the state of Tamilnadu, a leader in deceased donation transplantation, with a donation rate of 1.18 per million. MOHAN Foundation is recognized by the NHSBT of UK as its knowledge partner and sharing the best practices in promoting organ donation amonst the Asian population there. It is also recognized by United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCO) in matters related to organ donation.
