Story
SAVE OUR GREEN BELT!
Can you help us prevent Oxford's sprawl?
Begbroke & Yarnton Green Belt Campaign opposes Cherwell District Council's plans to delete areas from the Green Belt surrounding our villages in order to meet Oxford City's 'unmet housing need'.
Current proposals will irrevocably remove land from our Green Belt. This will adversely affect access to countryside and green space for all residents, both in Oxford and the surrounding villages; reduce mitigation against existing levels of pollution; increase traffic congestion; and damage wildlife habitats.
Surveys show that the great majority of residents, within and outside Oxford City, highly value the Green Belt and wish it to be preserved. This is in accord with the National Planning Policy Framework, which defines Green Belt as a permanent designation. We believe that no “exceptional circumstances” have been demonstrated by Cherwell District Council that might justify removing Green Belt land.
We have already raised £2,500 and we need to raise another £7,000 to successfully challenge the proposals, and we urgently need your support. Your donations will help us to:
- fund advice from planners, flood experts, and transport experts
- consult legal experts
- get the word out to all of our neighbours in the form of flyers, posters, and information sheets
This is our opportunity to over-turn these proposals and with your help we can succeed!

Begbroke & Yarnton Green Belt Campaign
6 years agoThank you for responding to our call for funds to fight Cherwell`s development plans, and for the messages of support that have accompanied donations. We are over halfway to our target of £9,500 & have already been able to commission expert advice on stopping Cherwell District`s plans for 2,500 houses around Begbroke & Yarnton. We still need money to commission a report on increased flooding risks. Please continue to donate, either via Justgiving or email info@ourgreenbelt.uk to ask about donating directly.
