Story

WHAT ARE WE DOING? The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham completely disregards residents' organised, well-argued and consistent objections presented through official channels during the entire planning process. This is DAVID versus GOLIATH! Community group needs £25,000 for legal review / planning appeal.

WHY DO WE NEED FUNDING? Support our well-founded legal bid to reveal and challenge malfeasance in local and central government on sale of public land for mammoth hotel, with 23 storey tower, bringing traffic gridlock in West London with no benefit to local community.

BE AWARE: We pay this crowd funding site a fee. You should ensure you override the site’s default request to avoid an extra contribution from you.

OBJECTIONS :

1. CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Local authority financing now demands dubious development schemes to plug financing gaps, selling public land for no identifiable public or community benefit.

2. PRECEDENT - WHAT NEXT? Will West London become the new Canary Wharf in your backyard?

3. WITH RESIDENTS, NOT TO THEM: Local residents everywhere in the Borough care about their environment and are willing to offer their time and expertise for continual improvement, something the Council ignores to its and its residents' detriment.

4. SCALE: At 23 storeys, 76 metres, 842 rooms, it would be the tallest building in Hammersmith, looming directly over residential & conservation areas, churches, schools, public areas, etc. A de facto architectural symbol, which Hammersmith does not need.

5. SKYLINE: Ruins the skyline and dominates the view from residents' windows, streets and public areas 360 degrees around the site: the historic St Paul's Artist Studios, the view across the Thames, St Augustine's Church, the iconic Ark, Margravine Cemetery and the CONSERVATION AREA of Barons Court.

6. TRAFFIC: Travel to the hotel will increase traffic (taxis and coaches) in an area already plagued by constant gridlock. Limited access will draw more traffic and pollution through quiet residential streets.

7. PLANNING: In conflict with local planning policies and London Plan; No environmental impact analysis for all hotels combined; Fails to match the vision for the regeneration of central Hammersmith.

INSTEAD, WE PROPOSE RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, WITH THE COMMUNITY
