Story
This fund has been created to raise funds to aid our campaign to Save the precious Wildlife and Habitat at Pasture Marsh from destruction by Wirral Council.
The land has been put up for sale by the council and is advertised as 'well suited for residential development'.
Residents were not informed of the sale and it was only discovered by chance.
It is our understanding that the council only own approximately 25% of the land for sale.
It appears they have collaborated with private landowners to maximise the development potential of the entire area.
We believe this goes against their own policy and indeed national policy of a presumption against greenfield development.
Wirral council have refused a request by a Wildlife Group to conduct a study on the area.
It is a beautiful area attracting many bird species, there is also a considerable bat population which feeds over the Marsh.
Also, this land is a flood water storage area and is underwater for a considerable period of the year, residents are concerned that any permitted development on this land would endanger existing properties within the flood zone as the land is part of the flood defence strategy for Moreton / Leasowe. Predicted climate change heightens the risk posed.
Furthermore there is already a substantial housing development on the old Cadbury's site just along pasture road in Moreton.
The concentrated increase in population density will inevitably lead to further pressures on local infrastructure such as Hospitals, GP's, Dentists and Schools.
These pressures should not be exacerbated by any further development.
You can find us on Facebook : The Friends Of Pasture Marsh.
If we are successful any remaining monies will go towards funds for a new perimeter fence.
At the end of our campaign funds may be donated to a charity as voted upon by group members.
