    Story

St. Andrew's United Reformed Church (URC) has served the residents of Roath and neighbouring areas since 1897, belonging to many Christian churches throughout the years. Our building has survived two world wars and served thousands of believers and non-believers alike.

The Church is used every day by all members of the community. We have Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, St Johns Ambulance Adults, Cadets and Badgers, Pilates, Zumba, Dance lessons, Bible study, Women's Institute and Cardiff Historical Society and a Toddler group all use the church alongside Sunday worship.

Over the year many Marriages and Christening haven taken place at St Andrews. The church also collect food at Harvest for The local food bank. At Christmas the congregation donate fully wrapped presents at a dedicated Christmas service, which are then kindly distributed via The Variety Club South Wales to children who would else not have a present. Many local community events, such as the Roath Bake Off baking competition have also enjoyed using the Church Hall.

The church hall has recently had a new heating system installed to ensure that during the winter months the hall is comfortable for all to use. This unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, this went over budget.

Additionally, the church roof has developed some holes and as well as letting in the rain, some pigeons have now made their home in the building. During the Christmas Eve service, a white pigeon joined the congregation when lighting the candles on a beam above the Christmas tree. It is now time that the hole is fixed, and the birds are found a new home.

There is a very real possibility that the church will have too close in the next 12 months if additional funds cannot be raised to help with the work needed. We will be holding a number of events at the Church to help with fundraising to keep the church open.

This is a beautiful building and it would be a real shame for all if it was to have to close its doors. Please help us keep St Andrews open. Any donation, whether it be 50p, or £50 would be most gratefully received.
