    Story

I would like to help raise funds for South Yorkshire Animal Rescue in Walkley, Sheffield. The charity has been established since early 1982 and times have been hard for them over the past year with donations and help decreasing. SYAR provides a vital service to the wildlife and our environment. The staff and volunteers have worked hard to rescue, support, rehabilitate, release and rehome wild and domestic animals over the years.

Through their hard work they are able to help save Hedgehogs which are massively in decline. With all our help we could keep the charity going for longer. any donations no matter how little will make a massive difference!

Below is some parts of the Spring appeal from the South Yorkshire Animal Rescue Facebook page. If you would like to find out more about the great work they do, please head over to www.syar.org.uk/ or find them on Facebook.

    Spring Appeal 2018

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved in the appeal so far, it looks increasingly likely that South Yorkshire Animal Rescue will have to close for good by the end of this year.

There are currently only sufficient funds to pay our 1 full time an 1 part time animal care and general staff until July 2018. After this time the Charity will only provide a skeleton service with volunteers only to care for the existing long term and permenant animals until the small amount of funds remaining is used up. The final closure date will depend on any funds raised and donations given between now and the end of the year.

The Charity's Committee and helpers are working very hard to postpone the closure. It will not be until the day the key is turned in the door for the last time that defeat will be admitted. While ever the charity remains there is hope. An unexpected or miraculous financial solution for the future could be found.

There is still hope but we would be foolish at this point not to prepare for the worst. Some ideas follow for ways you could help today....

Donations can be sent in several ways:

By cheque via post to: South Yorkshire Animal Rescue, 357 - 359 South Road, Walkley, Sheffield, S6 3TD.

Our Charity Shop at South Road. Walkley will continue to operate for as long as possible. Volunteers will be needed to keep this going and success will also depend on donations of good saleable items being donated. Please keep donating goods to sell ( if the worst did come to the worst remaining stock will be transfered to another local Animal Care Charity). Please ring the main contact number (0114 2349656 - currently 12 noon - 5pm Wednesday to Sunday) if you are travelling to the shop to check opening hours.

Our fundraising team is very small in number! If you want to join us, get in touch now. If you can organise an event yourself, sale, sponsored event, workplace fundraiser, raffle PLEASE let us know about it.

Finally, for now: If you can volunteer for animal care duties or shop work - now is the time while there are still staff available to train you. One off help such as filling your car for a trip to the tip is also very valuable and helps save money!

Messages can be sent via Facebook but please allow a day or two for someone to reply. Telephone - speak to Phil or Sylvia - best days are Wednesday through to Sunday between 12noon and 5pm. 0114 234 9656.
