Story

#ThisIsLuke

Luke Mortimer is the 7 year old son of our SBS colleague Christine.
On the 13th Dec 2019 Luke fell ill with Meningococcal Meningitis.

After being rushed to hospital, Luke was transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital and his young life was saved. However the disease has taken its toll on his little body. Since December, Luke has endured many hours of surgery to remove both hands, left at mid forearm and right just below the elbow. He has also lost both legs below the knee. He has proven he is a fighter, however his life and the life of his mum Christine, dad Adam and his 10 year old big brother Harry will never be the same.

Colleagues from Christine’s department at Skipton Building Society are undertaking 3 walking challenges across June to fundraise for the Mortimer family.

On 10th June two of Christine’s closest colleagues Andy and Heather will walk from Sheffield Children’s Hospital to Skipton via Edale and up the Pennine Way. It’s a gruelling 80 miles and it is expected to take them 4 days, with a proposed finish at Skipton on Saturday 13th June.

Also on 10th June, a large group from Christine’s department will be doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks walking challenge, which is an attempt to walk 26 miles over 3 fells within 12 hours.

On 13th June, one of our IT colleagues Darren Riley will be attempting the National Three Peaks challenge within 24 hours.
