    Story

I am extremely privileged to have been selected to represent the Guides at the World Scout Jamboree 2019. I am committed to raising the £3900 that will not only enable me to attend but will subsidise the trip for those travelling from less developed countries. I am planning lots of events including Quiz Nights, Prize Bingo, a Summer Ball and Raffles. I will be Car Washing, Bag Packing, Dog Walking, anything that will help me to reach my goal. Please let me know if there is a job or task that I can do for you.

This is the 24th World Jamboree and the Scouting Organisation promotes it as ' An educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills.' They take place every 4 years and in 2019 it is being hosted at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, USA. There will be over 40,000 Scouts attending from 165 countries, including a small percentage of Guides. It is going to be a fantastic opportunity to share experiences and ideas with people from completely different cultures and backgrounds. This will enable me to become an informed member of both the Guiding and wider Global Community. I will be challenged physically, mentally and emotionally and will take part in some amazing activities that will help build my confidence and my ability to work as a team.

There are 9 Guides attending from the whole of London and South East Region and I am the only Guide from East Sussex. I joined the Girlguiding community aged 5 as a member of Rainbows and it has been a massive part of my life ever since. In the past 8 years I have taken part in lots of new and exciting adventures and am now a Patrol Leader at my Unit - 7th St Leonards and am also a volunteer helper at my old Rainbows group. The selection process for Jamboree involved submitting a written application and references, giving some information about myself and what I hoped to gain from the trip. From this 27 girls were invited to attend a weekend camp in Kent. During the two days we were observed while carrying out a variety of tasks and activities, these included cooking, putting up tents and delivering a presentation. I feel incredibly honored to have been offered such an amazing opportunity, it really will be life changing.

I expect to return from the Jamboree having a more developed view of the world, a better understanding of how other young people live and how their expectations for the future differ to mine. I will get the opportunity to share my experiences at a presentation at Gillwell Park but look forward to doing the same with my friends at Guides and School. I hope this experience will help me understand my strengths and will guide me in the choices I make in the future. I know that opportunities like this happen once in a lifetime and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been selected.

The Jamboree is being held 3918 miles away from my home so every pound that I raise will literally get me a mile closer to this amazing opportunity.

Thank you so much for all your support

    Scarlett x

I have only 5 weeks to go before I fly off for the adventure of a lifetime. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family and local organisations that have supported me. I still have a little way to go to hit my target but have raised nearly £3500, so if anyone feels able to support me I would be extremely grateful.
