Selwyn College Boat Club is excited to announce its upcoming ‘24-hour Ergathon’ fundraising event, which will take place on the 24th – 25th March at Combined Colleges Boat House.
SCBC members will row with at least one, and up to four, ergs in constant use for a 24-hour period, from 5pm on Monday 24th March to 5pm on Tuesday 25th March. We aim to accumulate at least 300km in distance on the rowing machine (3 times the distance between Cambridge and Oxford!).
Through this Ergathon we hope to fundraise up to £5000 to match the £5000 pledged by alumni. This is to contribute towards a new boat for women’s crews (part of the lead-up to the 50-year anniversary of women being members of SCBC), and towards a men’s pair to enable SCBC rowers to take part in small boats races and regattas on the Cam.
SCBC is the biggest student society at Selwyn, and continues to grow each year. Recent years have seen remarkably strong uptake. The women’s side has quadrupled in size since 2021, with both W1 and W2 winning their blades in the Lent Bumps 2025, while M1 have finally cemented their position in the first division in Lent Bumps.
Updating our equipment will ensure that large numbers of Selwyn students can enjoy these opportunities and successes for years to come.
