I've raised £1000 to To help protect the farming community and wildlife near Landak river and Batu Kapal, Bukit Lawang. This including fully wild orangutan.

Help protect the farming community of Bukit Lawang and it's wildlife.
The area is home to an array of species, including fully wild Orangutan, Thomas' Langur Monkey, Silver Monkey, Long tailed and Pig tailed Maccaques. Also birds, which can only be found in North Sumatra and numerous reptiles.
The ecosystem in the farming areas of Bukit Lawang is under threat. Rubber trees are being felled and replaced with Palm Oil trees. This is destroying the biodiversity, which the wildlife need to strive.
The Orangutan and most monkeys cannot eat the Palm oil fruit. Nor can they climb the tree or nest in it due to the sharp leaves. Also no other plants can grow around the Palm oil due to its roots.
Felling of trees also destroys the corridors required for Orangutans and monkeys to pass from one area of the rainforest to the other, often leaving them isolated.
So what is the solution?
The Eco Conservation Project Bukit Lawang believe that donations, tourism, replanting of fruit and education of farmers is what is needed to protect the ecosystem.
How can your donation make a difference?
A £5 donation can help in the following way:
Planting of fruit tree such as Durian or Mangosteen, which Orangutans like as part of their diet.
Food for farmers including rice, cooking oil or seeds so they can start to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
A larger donation results in more fruit trees being planted and more food being hand delivered to farmers.
Sponsor a tree for £100 - A fruit plant of your choice will be planted in your name and your donation will cover the cost of it's maintenance until it is fully grown.
All of this will be documented so you can see where the money goes.
Gradually your donations can help give the farmers an alternative option to cutting trees and growing Palm Oil.
Gradually we can create an Ecosystem on the farm areas, which helps to allow farmers and the wildlife to thrive together in harmony.
Together we are stronger.
Thank you 🙏🌿🦧💚
