Story
My name is Scott McNeice. I am a serving soldier in the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps, and in November 2017 I had my leg amputated.
This was necessary after a service related injury was operated on and went wrong, leaving me wheelchair bound, in constant burning pain and with no feeling in my foot.
2017 was a year of hospital appointments, 12 operations, medication that has resulted in periods of memory loss, and massive upheaval both mentally and physically for myself and my family, culminating in the loss of my leg in November last year.
The week prior to my amputation, the Invictus games was on in Toronto. As I watched, I made a vow to myself that I would not let my injuries define me, and that I would prove to all the nay-sayers wrong, show them what I am capable of - what we ALL are capable of if we put our minds to it.
8months on and I have achieved my goal. I have been selected for the Invictus Games 2018. There have been setbacks, frustration and lot of determination, but I couldn't be more proud of how far I have already come.
This is where you come in. As part of Team GB we are required to have our own kit and equipment and as you are aware disability is expensive, disability sport is no different. I have been chosen for 6 sports - wheelchair rugby, wheelchair racing, sitting volleyball, archery, swimming and hand-cycling. I have been so kindly been lent chairs and a hand bike, but there is a lot of extraneous equipment necessary that I will need to buy myself. This includes arrows, a target, swimming goggles, gloves (different ones for different sports), helmets, cases to travel my equipemt in... the list goes on.
Please help me to perform to the best of my ability out in Australia, help me do my country proud.
