Story
Next summer I am planning to spend two weeks in Uganda volunteering in childcare with IVHQ. This will involve being placed in extremely under resourced day care centers and nurseries where I will look after vulnerable children living in poverty - many of whom will have lost one or both of their parents due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. My role will include educational activities where I will assist in teaching the children basic English and Maths, health and hygiene, and reading and writing. I would also play games with the children and assist in arts and crafts, feeding and daily chores. It has always been a goal of mine to go and volunteer in Africa and to offer my knowledge and skills to help those in need. I have decided that next summer would be an ideal time to do this and wanted to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Due to the high cost of flights from Scotland to Uganda I am looking to raise as much money as possible to cover this as well as the project fees required through the organisation I will be working with. This will go towards the money I will be saving up over the next year to be able to afford the trip. Anything anyone can spare would be amazing :)

6 years agoI can't quite believe I'm typing this but.. TODAY IS THE DAY!! In just under 6 hours my solo journey to Africa will begin (3 flights with 2 connections). Therefore, this is my last post on the fundraiser, but thanks again soso much to all who donated and made this possible. If anyone has been out of the loop and still wants to donate then I can give cash donations to the center or use the money to buy in-demand supplies for them in Uganda - I've already got my bag filled with some of these items to take over with me. THANK YOUUU!! X - Scott

6 years ago1 MONTH LEFT!! This time next month I will be packed and ready to fly to Uganda in the morning. As always, it's not too late to donate! I will be buying in-demand items for the centre - see last update for the list - with the remaining money raised. If you would like to donate these items personally please do get in touch as I will be bringing some items with me and then buying the rest there. It is also possible to sponsor a child at the centre (see chrystalchildrenscenter.com for more details) and here's a video from the centre itself xx

6 years ago2 MONTHS TO GO! This week it was confirmed that I will be placed at Chrystal Children's Center which cares for and provides education, food and shelter to rescued and abandoned babies, orphans and the vulnerable, including HIV positive children. They are extremely under-resourced and so your donations will go towards purchasing in-demand items for the center such as reading books, crayons/pencils, kids clothing and underwear, bed covers, nappies, vaseline/rash creams, feeding bottles, baby wipes and medication/vitamins. Thanks again to all X
