Story
As many of you already know, our dear son Will Melbourne died on the 18th of December 2020 aged just 19 years. Shortly after his death we started a JustGiving page to raise money in his memory, for adolescents with mental health problems. We were overwhelmed at the response, and have already raised over £25,000. The JustGiving page has now closed, but we are still receiving requests from people who want to donate. We are therefore starting this page to allow people to donate to this fund and to raise as much money and awareness as possible.

Will had Aspergers, ADHD and subsequent depression. He was an incredibly talented and intelligent boy but struggled with extreme social anxiety and found it hard to fit into the world. He felt suicidal and desperate so many times but was always turned away from A&E 9 times because he didn't fit into the right criteria to be admitted into hospital where he would be safe. He was still waiting over 2 years for the appropriate therapy on the NHS even when he died. Although he was in supported accommodation it fell short of the level of care needed to keep him safe. We are going to raise money to try to make a difference for these poor lost souls.
The BBC story provoked a huge response from people who were suffering in similar ways and were not receiving adequate help. The pandemic has only made this worse. Because of the enormous response to the news item, the BBC are continuing their coverage of Will's story and others like him.
Our cause is dependant on the amount of money we raise, but if we can make enough, it will be used towards creating a safe place for these vulnerable teenagers to go in times of crisis. Ideally, it will be a walk in clinic with trained professionals who are equipped to deal with all types of mental health crises. Alternatively we will donate it to a mental health charity or project.
