Story
Hi, I'm Seamus. Over the summer I learnt about the history of racism and civil rights. I read amazing books such as STAMPED by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds. I feel I now know more about what happened when people were not treated fairly and how much people suffer from racism. I wanted to fundraise for a project that got kids reading these kinds of books.
Recently, I found a great local charity, BOOK CLUBS IN SCHOOLS which runs book clubs in schools which really need them. They read and discuss books by authors like Jason Reynolds who I love.
I really like a challenge, so I'm going to do an Olympic Triathlon (1.5k swim, 10k run, 40k bike ride) over three days during half-term to raise this money. My original goal was to raise £500 for Book Clubs in Schools to cover the cost of books, author visits and training for book club leaders. If we can raise more, my mum and I will work with BOOK CLUBS IN SCHOOLS to create more book clubs.

And if you want to check out a great book shop, Round Table Books website is https://www.roundtablebooks.co.uk/about.
Please sponsor me, it would mean a lot. Thank you for your support!

4 years agoThank you to you amazing people who have donated! We were so excited to send the funds to the charities today! £1500 to Book Clubs in Schools! And with the support of Book Clubs In Schools, we sent the last £535 to Round Table Books directly for their Free Bookshelf program, where they send books to families, food banks and shelters who really really could use them. And any further donations will go to these causes - so if you are on this page, please donate!! I am very grateful for your support. Happy Reading!

4 years agoI just finished the second leg of the triathlon. I've got the last part tomorrow. I'm feeling confident though everything hurts at the moment! Need to look on the bright side - I'm close to the finish of the challenge! Thanks very much for the support. There have been a few more donations this weekend which is incredible. Book Clubs in Schools founder Ali Palmer came to see us during the run and she gave me the second book in the High Rise Mystery series. Can't wait to read it. Thank you Ali!

4 years agoI'm so excited to have raised more than £1,500 for Book Clubs in Schools! I've been reading more inclusive books lately and want to share in case you (or your kids) are interested. Jason Reynolds' new series starts with Ghost. It's about a runner who grew up with a difficult family life. The other books are about different runners in his running club called the Defenders. My brother Rory is reading this book and really likes it. Punching the Air is an amazing book about a boy who goes to prison for a crime he didn't commit. Take care, Seamus
