Story
There are many mature musicians in South Birmingham / Solihull area, but few opportunities for them to get together in a band and play live music. The aim of this fund raiser is to purchase a P.A. system ( an essential requirement for any live music), then to create a facebook page which actively encourages those 'bedroom' musicians to get together and learn how to play music with others. The intention is to make it a friendly, supportive environment in which nervous newbies feel welcome to join in and not feel under pressure to have great skills!
I have a practice venue in mind, a small group of existing musicians, and 25 years experience in social work...so I understand how to get organised and how to involve people! The Music Collective will work with local venues to create opportunities for musicians to play live without expecting headline-quality acts. The aim is to give local people a chance to play live music in front of an audience, learning the craft of performance. This is not another 'open mic night' but the beginning of a new collective group which we hope will engage venues and budding musicians in the development of the cultural life in the area. The area has a very limited music scene. This project hopes to change that.
