Story
‘The Muddy Men’ are taking on Tough Mudder in Manchester on 11th October to help raise money to support the running costs of our beloved Sean’s Place. Andy and Liam will be running 15k while also taking on 20 obstacles along the way.
As it is well highlighted, there is a stigma around men suffering with their mental health which can lead to men not reaching out for support, suffering in silence and leading to suicide. This stigma needs to be challenged to ensure men who are suffering can get the support they need. It takes strength and courage to seek support for your mental health, it is not a weakness or mean there is anything wrong with you. That is where Sean’s Place comes in to support men in their recovery in a non-judgmental environment.
What is Sean’s Place?
Sean’s Place was set up in 2019 by Debbie Rogers after losing her brother Sean to suicide in that year. Sean had reached out for support from health services and family however he didn’t have anywhere to go to be around other men experiencing their same difficulties. That feeling of being isolated and misunderstood can weigh incredibly heavy.
Through the sheer determination from Debbie and others, they have built Sean’s Place which has now helped over 4,000 men. It offers free and immediate support for men suffering with issues such as anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
Sean’s Place offers a range of therapeutic support including 1-1 counselling sessions, suicide prevention support, trauma therapy and bereavement support groups. They also offer social support including coffee & connect socials, cycling, Muy Thai, Mindfulness and Meditation, Qualifications, Football, Music, Hiking and more.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated to help break the stigma around Men’s Mental Health.
