Story
A message from our president:
Hey everyone, this page is set up to help keep Cardiff Uni Korf from going under. In the limited number of characters I'll try to explain why we need your support.
The main thing I should explain is that the club's financial situation isn't something that has occurred overnight, it's accumulated over a number of years and this year we've reached the breaking point essentially. This is the result of our funding structure which I'll attempt to explain.
The AU's current policy is to fund a club's main competition only. However, whilst we put BUCS as our main competition it is not completely funded. I don't want to air all our dirty laundry but here are some examples of how our current funding scheme puts us at a deficit. The AU pays for a certain percentage of BUCS entry but the club this year was still left with a £667.50 entry bill that we have to foot ourselves. They also only half fund accommodation and travel and so for prelims alone we're having to pay £225 of the coach cost, paid for by the players. These are just a couple of examples of the fact that the uni funding doesn't cover everything.
More importantly than this is the fact that they do not fund ''secondary'' competitions. For us this is our welsh league participation which, everyone will agree, is something that is absolutely necessary for the league and the club. This leaves a huge cost for hall hire, entry and affiliation to pay even before we think about using membership to pay refs. Contrary to what people might think our fixtures at taly aren't funded by the uni and this leaves us with a large deficit every year.
It pains us to be asking for help but with league entry, court hire and travel costs all increasing the club cannot sustain itself. At the current rate Cardiff University Korfball Club won't be around next season.
We really need your help to keep Wales' oldest Korfball club alive.
Kind regards,
Kristopher Banham
