My mum was a happy, stylish and confident business woman, always laughing and cheerie , then one day she was struck down with a heart attack, it was such a shock I don't think she ever really came to terms with what had actually happened until eventually due to her medication her gums became sore and painful, the dentists confirmed that she had developed gum disease, further to that they later discovered a massive absess in the left side of her face behind her jaw. The absess would need to be removed as it was growing and would eventually kill her, this however would involve drilling a hole into her jaw bone and removing all but 6 of her teeth.
I remember vividly coming into the hospital room after her operation and what I saw haunts me every day. Instead of my happy go lucky confident mum was a scared and broken woman.
I cried myself to sleep that night, my mum was gone and in so much emotional pain, I could feel it in her eyes. I cried and begged and prayed on my knees for God to help me to help her that night.
She has only been given the option of dentures but as the gum has no teeth it begins to shrink causing the dentures rub and cut into the gum leaving her mouth sore and bloody. Eating is impossible with these dentures in and she has lost a considerable amount of weight. Looking for work has become so disheartening due to the amount of rejections ( I know people say they can't not hire you because you have no teeth - legally no they can't but people will find other reasons such as " not enough experience etc" she has severe depression and basically hates herself, she never goes out or takes any pride in her appearance any more as she feels horrible.
We have tired everything possible even applied for the Jeremy kyle show to try to help my mum, the NHS will not help her and she has been to over 10 different dentists.
Please please help us to raise some money towards getting her some dental work to bring my amazing mum back to us. We need her so much xx
