Story
In September 2018, 23 recruits began their 14 week, gruelling firefighter training at the Thornton Fire College, Fife.
This diverse group of people quickly gelled through the intense physical training and academical study which all firefighters must successfully complete prior to posting to local stations.
These recruits in particular come from an unbelievably varied background and include a former Mr Scotland, blacksmith, Business Owner, Fitness Instructors, Lifeguards, Soldiers, a Police Officer, Rope Access Expert, Greenkeeper and even an exclusive Restaurant Manager!
True to the roots of the reason for joining such a service, these recruits are now hoping to put themselves through even tougher tasks to raise money for two really worthwhile charities.
The recruits are hoping to complete a sponsored walk in FULL UNIFORM AND BREATHING APPARATUS!! The kit here includes almost 20 kilos of gear and to make things even more challenging, facemasks will be worn.
And the walk itself? Well that will be over the entire length of the Forth Road Bridge !!
All monies raised will be equally split between 2 charities;
Ward 2, The Sick Kids Hospital Edinburgh - This charity is very near to the heart of the group given that the child of one of the recruits is presently undergoing treatment there.
The Fire Fighters Charity - This is a 75 year old charity which prides itself on assisting firefighters and their families who need assistance the most.
Any donations small or large will be enormously appreciated and will go to the above two great causes. The recruits themselves are very much looking forward to the challenge and especially so in the knowledge that they start their careers doing what they will each day from now. Helping everyday people like you.
Thank you in advance.
