Story
Friends of Dorset Care Leavers is a charity that strives for better outcomes for care experienced individuals. The newly established charity consists of people who already spend their professional life helping young adults who are care experienced but believe greatly that these young people should have the same opportunities as their fellow peers. They do this by arranging fun days out as well as weekly raffles. This is important because it allows care experienced people to meet in a safe and non-judgemental environment to have fun, in respect a family setting. However, unfortunately such days do require some funding. So, as a result, I have put forward that I will shave my hair for the cause. Admittedly, upon the face of my appearance I do not have a lot to shave, but for those who know me will know that my hair is something that I really do take pride in and care about very much. I am doing this because, as a care experienced individual, I cannot express how crucial these interactions with like minded people are. When you feel that the world is against you, having that support network and family group to lean back on really does make the difference and I hope that these days will continue for people after I’ve flown the metaphorical nest.
