Story

Hello everyone and thanks for visiting our page.

In December 2023 our son Hughie was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. This is an aggressive blood related cancer. From this point, Hughie spent the majority of 2024 in hospital undergoing intense chemotherapy treatment, a long road of treatment will continue seeing us through until April 2027 and we remain forever optimistic that Hughie will come through the other side cancer free!!

The shock, fear and sadness Hughie's diagnosis brought to us will be a forever memory. But, in equal measure the memories we have of the immediate comfort we felt from Hughie's medical team and associated charities will stay with us forever. Childhood cancer does not feel rare when your life is surrounded by it and we know that there is always room for more support, more help and more awareness raising. And that is what The Cooper Hands is all about - supporting families, helping families and raising awareness.

Following a hugely successful 2024 of fund raising we are entering 2025 with same level of energy and commitment to continue to give a helping hand back to families. Our mission is that no family is discharged from Ward 86 without a 'Hughie Box', and that once discharged families have opportunities to take part in positive activities.

What is a Hughie Box? The 'Hughie Box' is a box filled with essential items a child in cancer treatment needs when they return home and most importantly the box contains a digital thermometer. A thermometer is potentially a life saving piece of equipment and no child with a central line can be discharged without one.

Our aim is to raise funds throughout 2025 and beyond to cover the cost of a 'Hughie Box' for every child discharged from Ward 86 and when funds allow we will host as many positive wellbeing activities in the community.

So far this year we have a Skydiving event, Hiking days, charity darts night and even World Record attempts...you can get involved by taking part in these organised events or come up with your own - no event is too small or too big for The Cooper Hands - please get in touch by emailing shane@thecooperhands.com and we help you promote your fundraising efforts.
