Story

Hello everyone

As many of you aleady know, I am studying Children’s Nursing at Teesside university where I am currently half way through my studies.

I have an incredible, once in a life time oppotunity this year to do an international placement. I have chosen to take up on this opportunity and go to Ghana to gain valuable experience caring for children from a whole different perspective.

The impact of culture and language in a third world country will enhance my communication skills, leading to a greater knowledge of nursing skills and abilities. This will be a massive learning opportunity, experiencing a different way of life as well as working in limited healthcare facilities tackling serious conditions like Ebola, Malaria and Malnutrition. This will aid my development of my preexisting skills and as well learning much more, and returning home with an enhanced appreciation of the impact nursing has on children's lives in all walks of life.

Seeing first-hand what the children of Ghana go through on a daily basis and the fantastic job the nursing community do, I just hope I can play a small role in help making the children of Ghana’s life that little bit better. This whole experience will really be an 'eye opener' and will make me realise just how lucky we are to have the NHS in the UK.

This summer I will be completing various different fundraisers such as a Skydive and a 2k run at the moment, where I hope to gain the required funds to make this experience happen and secure my seat on the plane to Ghana. Every penny raised will make a massive impact, roughly the whole experience to Ghana will cost just over £1000, but this will be my only ever chance to do this.

This is a fantastic cause to aid the lives of those worse off than ourselves, any contribution no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance……..

Shannon
