Story
Maisy is our family dog who we love unconditionally. She is the last little piece to make our family complete and content. She has brought us six happy years full of memories and enjoyment. However, Thursday 23rd August we woke to find Maisy in a lot of pain. She had collapsed and we couldn't get her back up, her tummy swollen and tender, we knew she was poorly.
We took her straight to the vets and after many tests it was discovered she had a mass on her spleen which was causing her serious internal bleeding and an operation to remove the spleen taking the mass with it was critical for any chance of survival. However, we all underestimated how much blood she had lost. In total over 50% (around 2 litres) meaning post surgery she was extremely weak and unfortunately did crash and needed to be resuscitated. We got her back but a double blood transfusion was required for her to survive the night.
Maisy has responded to every treatment well, she really is a little fighter and we are thrilled to have her back home after almost a week in hospital, she is now where she belongs.
Unfortunately, due to an ongoing illness Maisy has had since she was a puppy, she was not insured at the time of this illness. As a family we decided to agree to give her every possible chance to survive whatever the cost. With the constant reassurance from the brilliant vets she was a fighter, doing everything in her power to recover and come home with us one day. Her treatment has been intense with scans, operations, double blood transfusion and a long hospital stay, currently her vet bill is over £3500.
She has gone through a lot, as have we as a family and we are hoping we all pull through and come out stronger. We are still waiting for the biopsy results to determine if the mass they removed was cancerous or not. We as a family will deal with that news when it comes but for now Maisy is home, happy and comfortable, surrounded by her family and that is all we can ask for right now.
Any donations towards her bill will be kindly welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thank you from the Wells family for finding the time to read Maisy story x
