Story
Chris loved cycling. He rode with purpose — for charity, for camaraderie, and for the sheer joy of the ride. On 12 May 2024, while training for a London-to-Paris charity ride, Chris suffered a cardiac arrest on the Forth Road Bridge. There were no defibrillators nearby. We lost him that day. In his memory, and to make sure no one else faces the same fate, we have worked with Transport Scotland to install life-saving defibrillators on the bridge and in the surrounding area. Please help us keep them ready to save lives.
About Chris 💚
Chris was an avid cyclist, a loyal friend, and a committed fundraiser. Over the years he completed more than 40 charity cycles and raised over £25, 000 for causes close to his heart, including Poppy Scotland and the Royal British Legion. He approached every ride with kindness, grit and a determination to help others — and his spirit lives on in the work we now do.
“He rode for others. He lived for others.” — family & friends
The day that changed everything
On 12 May 2024, while training on the Forth Road Bridge, Chris suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Because there were no defibrillators on or near the bridge, emergency responders had no immediate access to the devices that could have given him a chance. It’s a loss that could have been prevented — and it’s why this campaign exists.
What we’ve achieved so far
Working with Transport Scotland, and driven by Chris’s memory, we have installed three defibrillators on the Forth Road Bridge and three more in the local area. All six devices are registered on The Circuit and available for anyone who needs them. Each installation is a step toward ensuring others have a fighting chance.
Why ongoing support matters
Installing a defibrillator is only the first step — keeping it ready is a continuing responsibility:
• All six batteries must be replaced every 5 years, at a total cost of £1,500
• Replacement electrode pads must be purchased each time a device is used, at £50 per set.
Your donations help cover these maintenance costs so the defibs remain fully operational and ready for emergencies.
How you can help 🙌🏻
We welcome support in any form — every contribution matters.
• Donate now: keep batteries and pads in place.
• Sponsor a battery cycle: fund the next 5-year battery replacement.
• Sponsor a pad kit: cover the cost after a use (£50).
• Share Chris’s story: passing this page on social media spreads awareness and saves lives.
• Fundraise: host a ride, coffee morning, or memorial event in Chris’s name.
Suggested donation ideas:
• £10 — emergency pad kit contribution
• £50 — one full replacement pad set
• £250 — part contribution toward battery replacement
• £1,500 — fund the 5-year battery replacement for all six devices
In Chris’s name 💚
This campaign is more than maintenance — it’s a legacy. It honours a husband a father, a papa, a friend, and an extraordinary cyclist who gave so much. By supporting this work you help make the Forth Road Bridge and our community safer for everyone who rides, walks, works or travels there.
Real impact — how this saves lives
Every minute counts in cardiac arrest. With accessible defibrillators and people who know where they are, survival rates rise dramatically. The devices we’ve installed are publicly registered, mapped, and ready to be used by passers-by, cyclists and first responders — but they will only remain effective if they’re maintained. Your support keeps them alive, in Chris’s memory.
Thank you for your kindness, your donations, and for helping Chris’s spirit continue to serve others.
