Story

My name is Brad and I live at home with my mam, dad, sister and our 2 dogs Ronan and Rosie. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, North Wales. We live by the coast but not we're not too far from the mountains either.

I was born at 32 weeks, and I was healthy, but small (4lbs 10oz), eight hours later I went into respiratory distress. Unfortunately, I didn't get the care I needed and I suffered brain damage. It wasn't until It wasn't until I was 3 that my parents were told that I have Cerebral Palsy.

My mum helped me to learn to walk using a wooden push a long toy that was weighted with house bricks, as I grew stronger she would take a brick away. Eventually, I could walk by myself. However, when I was 16 I had a big growth spurt and as a result I was diagnosed with scoliosis. I used a walking frame to stay independent but due to my muscle strength deteriorating I had some nasty falls. Since my epilepsy has worsened I have to take more medication which means I find even moving from my wheelchair to the armchair difficult.

I currently go to two day centres, and I am supported by four men from Focus care. They are great fun and we do lots of different things together such as: walking my dogs, horse riding, adapted cycling, sit skiing with Disability Ski Wales, going on train rides, watching/looking at motorbikes, and going on speed boats. I love being out and about and meeting my friends at the weekly disco!

My current wheelchair is becoming very uncomfortable, partially because I am losing my core strength and partially because it is not suitable for where I live and the activities I enjoy. I cannot go on certain walks because there are areas for which the wheelchair is not suitable, it could get stuck/get damaged/tip over which could cause me or someone else harm. One day I went around Lake Crafnant with my parents, my sister and her boyfriend Cristian and the dogs. It was fun but it was very uncomfortable because it was very bumpy and not very safe in parts.

If I had this new wheelchair, doing my favourite activities would be safer, easier and even more fun!

I hope that you'll be able to help me achieve more independence, and enjoyment in my life. Any donation is welcome and more than appreciated!

Thank you for your support
