Our world changed forever in April 2026. What started as an unexpected hospital admission quickly became every family’s worst nightmare. After living with almost no symptoms, our mum was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in May. By the time it was found, there was very little that could be done in terms of treatment.

Cancer had silently taken hold without giving us the chance to fight it sooner.

Just four months after her journey began, on 25th July 2026, we had to say goodbye to the most incredible woman. She was a loving wife, mum, grandmother and friend, and the space she has left behind is impossible to put into words. Every day without her feels incomplete, and we are still trying to navigate a world that no longer has her in it.

Although our hearts are broken, we want to honour Mum’s memory by turning our grief into something positive.

We are raising money for three organisations that made an immeasurable difference during the hardest time of our lives.

Havens Hospices funded the incredible carers who cared for Mum with such kindness, compassion and dignity in her final days and weeks. Their support gave not only Mum comfort, but our family reassurance during the most difficult moments imaginable.

Citizens Advice Bureau went above and beyond to support my parents. They genuinely cared about Mum’s circumstances, offered invaluable guidance, and helped make an overwhelming situation just a little easier to manage.

We also want to support Cancer Research UK, whose work gives hope for the future. They invest in research into earlier screening and detection, identifying pre-cancerous changes, supporting clinical trials, and improving NHS screening programmes.

Our mum had so few symptoms that by the time cancer was discovered, there was very little that could be done. We will always wonder whether an earlier diagnosis or advances in screening could have changed her story. If our fundraising helps move us one step closer to a future where fewer families experience this heartbreak, then Mum’s legacy will continue to make a difference.
