Story
Myself and Ruth are going to work in an orphanage in Sri Lanka in January 2017. We will be doing one month's voluntary work with 24 orphaned girls. We have funded our own flights, accommodation and food.
While we are there amongst other things we hope to:
- Build the girls self esteem.
- Support them to look and feel good about themselves.
- Develop their social skills.
- Offer them love and affection.
The orphanage receives very little funding from the Government which results in some of the following issues:
Not enough money to buy basic needs like toiletries.
No privacy or dignity for the girls to shower or dress.
No money to support the girls to be part of the community and to develop social skills.
There are not enough staff and there is no investment in staff development.
A very tired environment ......that is not homely.
With your support we know we can invest to change the lives of these girls.
We can support the staff who are overworked and underpaid. We will work alongside them and support them with a development programme to develop their skills, knowledge and experience.
We also hope to develop the physical environment to make it feel more comfortable and more like a home for the orphaned girls.
Please give generously to enable us to make a real difference to the lives of these girls.
