A very treasured friend of mine has been struggling for much needed therapy for at least 4 years now. Back in 1999 she was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (previously called Multiple Personality Disorder) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
This is a result of long term sexual abuse starting in infancy and not ending until she was 29 years old. She has lead a unsettled life having to move 13 times because her family - who were all involved in her abuse traced her. She has had to change her name three times to help prevent her being traced.
Now the impact the abuse has had on this person means she cannot work because of her mental health and finds making friends difficult meaning she's isolated. She has been deemed as needing long term therapy by her local primary care trust but due to funding cuts after a 4 year wait she has only been offered 40 sessions. Just 40 hours to work through the trauma caused by over 24 years worth of abuse. This therapy is coming to an end. All that has happened is plasters have been ripped off making her life a living nightmare.
She is now looking for a private therapist to offer what the trust will not. But with limited funds she can not afford most therapists with enough experience fees.
So we are trying to raise as much as possible to help her rebuild her life after what can only be described as a living nightmare.
