    Story

I was a son of a middle class family in India. After the death of my father due to sudden heart attack, my mother had to play her role as a single parent. She had to fund our needs alone. Our family's life was more complicated. No days without suffering. Our family's condition was getting worse, some of my relatives who lived near our house assisted now and then.

After I had finished my studies and got a job, it was the time for my old mother to retire. But she didn't want to. She got Type II diabetes and undergone treatment. She used to think of me each and every moment.

When time goes on Diabetes started showing its worse part on my mother’s body, because of that she got many severe health issues. Firstly it affected her Eyes, Doctor suggested for operation. But on the second opinion other doctor told that it is not advisable to operate now for such a chronic diabetes patient. We waited. After some time the legs got affected, The legs used to become vary fat and got much infections on the both legs, where she was not able to walk even. I left my job and stayed with her to look after. After some days she got Urinary Track infection, creatinine levels went very high, the Urologist suggested immediate operation, and we have no other go then say ‘YES’, and we agreed for the operation, The operation went smooth, he said it was success. After the Operation she discharged from hospital, but the operated part got infection and the wound became very painful to my mother. She lay in weakness on her bed after having the operation. Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep thought. She tried to spread her smile on her face ... but it was a noticeable effort. It was clear that the wound had weakened mother's body. She looked so frail and weak. I stared at my mother with tears flowing. My heart was hurt ... so hurt, seeing my mother in that condition. But mother with the little strength she had, said “Don't cry, my dear. I'm not in pain”. We again visited the Hospital, the urologist unstitched the wound and suggested daily dressing for the open wound without stitches. The wound was open for a month continuously and we took the hospital services to dress up the wound daily, one day suddenly she fell down from the bed and became speechless, we immediately taken her to the same corporate Hospital, the Doctors admitted her in critical care Unit. That was her last day in my home. From that day she was in the Hospital for continuous 47 days. Mean time she got multiple organs failure, one day breathing problem, one day continuous motions, one day Lungs effected.. opthalmologist started treating her, one day skin got effected Plastic surgeon started attending her. The team of doctors counseled me daily that there are chances to get your mother back and be patient. I was waited a lot and prayed a lot for her. More than 3 times she took help of ventilator for her breath, and three times she came back from ventilator, but the final time when she went to ventilator… she never came back. Hospital bill was very high and we need to pay daily during the treatment time. Unfortunately my mother and I did not have any Health Insurance; we had to pay all the bills from our own pockets, which is not at all affordable for us. I sold my house; I sold the jewelry whatever me and my mother have. Even that is not sufficient, I borrowed money from all different sources and some persons, as my mother has very good name in the town no one said no to help us financially. Whomever I asked they given the amount as a hand loan. Someone given on interest some close ones given without interest. I said every one that I will pay them back in a year. It’s been one year I tried to pay some amount back, but as the amount is very huge, I am not at all able to pay them back, I applied to the Local government stating my situation, they sanctioned very little amount which is not even 2 percent of the amount which was spent during the hospital time. As all my friends and relatives known ones shown humanity on us, I do not want them to feel regret by helping for a real humanity cause. I need to pay them back, and I decided to spend my rest life for helping poor patients who doesn’t have capacity to pay their Hospital bills. Now I am in such a position that I have to re pay the amount which I can’t. I am helpless and depressed. I am totally immersed in loans and interests. I really need your help to come out of this painful situation.
