Story
The doctors at Newent Holts Health Centre are running a sponsored triathlon to raise money for Newent Association for the Disabled on 17th September. They will be swimming, cycling and running for the cause to help fund the charity.
About the charity
Newent Association for the Disabled is the umbrella organisation for Sheppard House, Newent Community Transport and our Charity Shop. Approximately 7,000 visits per annum are made to Sheppard House and in excess of 35,000 passenger trips are made on our transport fleet.
Sheppard House
The day centre is for disabled, older people and specialises in dementia day care. It provides a welcome break for those people who would otherwise be isolated or lonely. We are open five dates a week and provide care, companionship and recreational activities. Morning refreshments, a two course hot lunch, and afternoon tea are provided with special diets catered for. Transport is provided if required, and activities include musical entertainment, beauty treatments, yoga and other gentle exercise, among many other things. Sheppard House also hosts a bathing annexe with two, specially equipped bathrooms with disabled access baths and shower. We hold a men's club twice a week and a craft session every Thursday.
Community Transport Services
The Community Transport Service covers the North Forest of Dean area. It provides affordable, accessible transport for those who find it difficult to get out and about. We provide shopping trips and transport to appointments for those who would otherwise struggle.
