    Story

Kennett is a lovely small village in the Cambridgeshire countryside with just 120 houses, but the Local Council has recently awarded planning permission for a development of 500 houses. The property company concerned is East Cambs Trading Company which is wholly owned by East Cambridgeshire District Council.

In the Local Plan there is an envelope which is designed to protect our countryside. The farmland designated for 500 houses is situated OUTSIDE of that envelope.

They claim it has wide community support and community led, it is not. 156 residents objected in contrast to 75 Community land trust members who voted in support! Our Kennett Parish council also objected and was ignored.

Government inspector in local plan examination deemed this Kennett development to be unsound. The council ignored that and continued with their push for the development. They are the developers and decision makers.

Such an increase in population will at least quadruple the traffic on roads that already struggle to be adequate, it will ruin the character of Kennett and the surrounding countryside.

East Cambs Trading Company admits the Kennett development is crucial for them to repay a £5M loan from the Council. Clear conflict off interest.

Because of Planning Law, our only way of fighting the Council decision is a judicial review. We believe it is important to stand up and fight for justice and protection of countryside. We have enough evidence to mount a successful legal challenge. WE NEED YOUR HELP

Totally agree with your letter about conflict of interest of ECDC councillors in this week's Ely Standard. Keep up the good work. Honesty must prevail.

I support KAG in fighting the misuse of Rural Exception Site rules and the cynical branding as a Community Land Trust. The CLT Movement was founded to help small communities, not destroy them.

Good luck! Massive conflict of interest and totally overwhelming when considering the current village size. When combined with massive over development of Red Lodge it seems totally unsustainable.
