    Story

As a parent of a child with a long term condition I want to recieve GREAT CARE when admitted to hospital. The staff on 7E are amazing and always go above and beyond to make sure out children are taken care of. There is however an urgent shortage of two things urgently required for a patient admitted for a long stay: fridges and TV's. there are 16 rooms in isolation and 2 bays with 8 beds. A total of 24 beds. As it is a childrens ward most parents or family members stay with the children and so need to arrange food dor themselves. There is a family kitchen with one small fridge. this is a huge problem. Theres no space for parents to store food and so end up having to get food delivered everyday or bought from shops. Not all children like the hospital food but theres no space to store food. Eating out everyday ends up being very expensive and unhealthy. A lot of the children on this ward require a high calorie diet but theres no space to store these foods. Children are in isolation rooms due to cross infection and not allowed to leave the rooms. Entertaining a child in a confined space for a long admission is certainly a challenge . Most children request a TV but due to shortages they are not able to meet their requests. Something as simple as a TV can make a long, painful admission somewhat shorter and bearable. These wards combined see patients with long term sever chronic conditions from cystic fibrosis to severe pnemonia , premature babys with chronic lung disease and needing ventilators. There are also patients with sickle cell, cancer patients and children with complex needs and learning disabilities. life for these children and their families is hard enough without the extra added burden of worrying about where to put their food or how to pass time to make life in a hospital bed a bit more bearable. please share and donate so we can buy fridges and TVS for the rooms. The target is to buy 18 fridges and 24 TV's.

Having been there ourselves I know what you mean Sherry, lost count of the amount of times Nicola complained about the same issues.

I am mum of a child with long term health issues that requires stays of several weeks or more and the cost can be in the region of £150-£200 to feed your self for the entire stay and unfortunately there are not enough fridges to go round
