    Story

I have worked for eating disorders for nearly 3 years and until my role here as a Healthcare support worker, I had never thought of becoming a nurse. A patient once said 'you would make a great nurse, because you treat us as humans and not our illness'. It made a dent in my heart and I realised that I have more potential to which I am now starting my Mental Health Nursing (Bsc) degree! Mental health illnesses effect every 1/4 people, so I realised how much society needs to be warming and empathetic towards everyone and have a basic insight to mental health illnesses, and not to judge or discriminate against them or make assumptions such as 'being anorexic is social media thing'. We need to highlight the importance of great team work, working closely with patients and their loved ones requires key and consistency through there tough journey into recovery. The reason I am doing the charity run is to highlight the passion that I as health care staff have towards patients in their recovery, and if we can do something outside of our lovely NHS money to assist patients further with their anxieties/confidence then we should. We all need to be recognising where changes could be made and doing something to assist within it. I believe things can not change by a minority. It requires the majority, and even something so small is a start.

Training has currently ramped up! I've managed 30 miles in total (but I had a holiday in between!) - today I managed my first 5 miles in one 🏃 run. I'm very proud, can not wait for the feeling of managing 13 miles!
