Story
I am taking part in The Montane Summer Spine race it is a non-stop, 268 mile race along the most iconic national trail in Britain; the Pennine Way. Beginning from Edale in Derbyshire, I have a time limit of 156 hours to reach the elusive village of Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. This is widely regarded as “Britain’s Most Brutal” endurance race. A truly epic challenge that will test my physical resilience and mental fortitude. Racing non-stop and unsupported through day and night, I will experience the sheer breath taking magnitude of this route where summer temperatures can fluctuate from the high twenties down to zero overnight.
I have three months to prepare myself for the biggest challenge of my life to date. I am giving this 100% commitment and determination.
Over 50% of entrants do not finish the race, I am adding pressure on myself to raise money for my children's local school. So when the tough gets going I can focus on them and realise people have believed and donated for my cause to push me to do this.
Calthwaite CofE school is an amazing school that my son currently goes to and my daughter will in a few years. The school is very much into the outdoors and constantly focusing on getting the kids outside and practical activities. The head teacher Mr Harvey is trying to raise funds to buy a boat for the children to play in outdoors, the cost is round £5,000 so I am aiming to give a contribution to this.
I am sure running 268 miles non stop with a few hours sleep on course on the way is worth digging a few pounds out for, every little helps!
